Acid halides

Acid halides, also called acyl halides, are derived from carboxylic acids or their salts by replacing the hydroxyl group with a halogen atom. They react vigorously with water, alcohols, ammonia and amines to give acids, esters and amides respectively, and are used primarily to introduce the acyl group. Most are fuming liquids with sharp odours. Molychem offers acid halides in LR, AR and For Synthesis grades — acyl chlorides, chloroformates and phosphorus chlorides.
