Clinical and diagnostic reagents are pre-formulated solutions that produce a measurable
colour, turbidity or precipitate when they meet a specific analyte in a biological sample.
Because results are read visually or spectrophotometrically, reagent strength, pH and shelf
stability must be tightly controlled, and batches are standardised against reference
materials before release.
