Good's Buffer ( Biological Buffers )

Good's buffers are zwitterionic aminosulphonic acids selected in the 1960s against criteria for biological work: pKa values in the physiological range, high water solubility, minimal Molychem manufactures HEPES, PIPES, TRIS and TRIS-HCl, BES, TES, TAPS, CAPS, CAPSO, MOPSO, POPSO, tricine, bicine, CHAPS. binding of metal ions, low membrane permeability and negligible absorbance in the UV. Because Good's buffers neither chelate magnesium nor cross cell membranes, they hold pH steady in enzyme assays, electrophoresis and cell culture without perturbing the system being measured.
